About Cameron

Cameron Westmoreland is an innovative composer, arranger, and musician who is passionate about creating music that stimulates the senses. Cameron’s works are influenced by his studies of jazz music, while also putting a twist on common classical techniques. He has been praised for his whimsical and complex approach to composition, while complementing and accentuating a storyline.
Cameron creates notable works of music for all types of media and ensemble platforms. Some of his noteworthy accomplishments include works written for animation, film, micro-opera, flute duet, harp, sax quartet, and multi-movement works for Pierrot ensemble, to name a few. His compositions have been performed or read by avant-garde music groups such as Duo Zonda, Room to Spare, ~Nois, and Mojave Trio. One of Cameron’s recent musical contributions for the animation short “The Donut of Discord” has received multiple award nominations from a variety of film festivals like the 2022 Lit Laughs International Comedy Film Festival (UK), the 2022 Student World Impact Film Festival (SWIFF), the 2022 Dublin International Comedy Film Festival, the 2022 Lift-Off Global Network First-Time Sessions Filmmaker, as well as others, and was also a finalist in the 2022 KCET Fine Cut Festival of Films.
Cameron earned his bachelor’s degree, with honors, in Music Composition, from the University of California, Riverside. While at UCR, Cameron studied composition with Dr. Ian Dicke and Dr. Dana Kaufman, and he composed several pieces that have been professionally performed. Cameron was a four-time recipient of the Marius de Brabant Music Scholarship, as well as a saxophonist in the UCR Concert Band under the direction of Lauren Wasynczuk, and UCR Jazz Band under the direction of esteemed trumpeter Josh Welchez.
Cameron earned his Master of Music degree in Composition at the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music (BCCM) at California State University Long Beach. While attending the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music, under the tutelage of Dr. Raymond Torres-Santos, Dr. Alexander Miller, and Dr. Martin Herman, he has expanded and refined his skill sets and continues to push tonal music to its limits while also keeping his music enjoyable to listen to and perform. In addition to his composition studies, Cameron played saxophone with one of the BCCM’s Jazz combos, directed by accomplished saxophonist, composer and arranger Jimmy Emerzian, and with the BCCM Studio Jazz Band, under the direction of critically acclaimed jazz trumpeter and composer Jeff Jarvis.
